Today has been a tough day. As I am on my way to work with my mom, she brings up how it will be a year in two weeks… I tell her not to think about it and make herself upset and stressed. I got to work at 7:45, so that tells you how early it was.

Now it’s 11:45, and I am watching a training video, and I’m crying. The hatred people can have for a breed of dog specifically because of their breed, and for no other reason, is the reason Bane isn’t here anymore. I didn’t get to see him the night he was put down. My mom didn’t give informed consent because nothing was explained to her, just that, “It would be the most humane thing to do for him.” And this wasn’t by the vet.

A fight between him and his son, Dutch, broke out in the house, and my grandpa slipped because he had been mopping… The neighbors, who DO NOT like pit bulls and have made that very clear, called the police and said both Bane and Dutch were “mauling” my grandpa. The Redford police handled this situation well. They didn’t do anything to agitate the dogs anymore or make the situation worse. Animal Control got there and threw something in the window to see if the dogs were anywhere in the house… Mind you, this person is supposed to KNOW how to de-escalate situations, and by this point, Ava was just barking because there were so many people outside. Bane was lying in the corner injured, and Dutch had gone downstairs… Everything had calmed down.

Then my mom got there, and she made my mom go grab Dutch (not informing her of her rights), and he was wagging his tail... not aggressive, no barking, nothing.

My mom then gets a call from the vet asking her to get there. When she gets there, she is told she needs to give consent to put Bane down… Animal Control then tells her that if she doesn’t give it, he is going back to the Humane Society and will be used as live evidence, and that it’s the most humane thing to do. Then, after she gave it, she was told thanks because it made their job easier… Are you kidding me!?

I sat there crying, asking her not to do it and asking if the vet actually said he couldn’t make it… She just said she had to because he was in so much pain...

I also have a letter saying he was put down at the suggestion of the Animal Control officer. This woman did no investigation of her own and went based on information she got from the neighbors, who she is on a first-name basis with.

Well, I also work for the attorney my mother used, and I had to watch the discovery video only to hear that the vet didn’t say he had to be put down and that it was the Animal Control officer's recommendation, and my mother said she trusted her opinion… Obviously, my mother was not in the right state of mind. Had I known then that the vet DIDN’T say he had to be put down, I would’ve fought harder and been even more of a pain in the ass than I usually am and I already had been; but I stopped pushing because of how upset my mom was about everything... That was one of the hardest things to do... watch that video and not be irate at my mother after the fact and go off on her... I did tell her to just stop after she tried telling me she never said that when I told her what I watched and that she did.

Then Dutch, Bella, and Ava had to sit in the Humane Society pending court, even though she said Bella and Ava were good girls. And mind you, they all got kennel cough, and Bella is a senior dog. SO, Bella and Ava are good, and yet you detain them for a period of time when you said they didn’t do anything and are good girls!? She then proceeded to tell my mother in an email, “To save yourself money, given your financial situation, and because he isn’t leaving the Humane Society alive, you should just allow him to be put down.”

Are you F*CKING kidding me?! You make a definitive decision and tell my mother that? That is not your call.

And thank goodness I did what I could in regard to staying on top of them while the attorney my mother used was out of the country. If not, the discovery video would’ve been disposed of… It was not flagged as "do not delete" until I put in a FOIA request and then was quoted over $700.00. I asked why it was so much and was referred to IT, who gave me the breakdown and said he had to go through and watch all the video from that day to see what pertained to my mother’s case because nothing was flagged, so that added extra time to the number of hours spent looking for it...

So, what you’re telling me is that had I NOT requested that FOIA, my mom wouldn’t have had her evidence going into court? And when I asked the clerk to make sure it stayed flagged as "do not delete," she had the nerve to tell me that, as stated, they flagged it. No ma'am, it was only flagged because I requested it via a FOIA request, not because you guys flagged it to be part of the file. The point was to keep it flagged so my mother had evidence because it wasn’t even logged or flagged as "do not delete" when charges were filed against my mother.

I miss my dog. I hate hateful people who don’t care about anything but what THEY think is right and wrong. And now I didn’t get to see my dog aside from on FaceTime before he died. He was only 7… the biggest baby, the biggest love bug, and the biggest pain in the ass. But he was mine and my family’s, and he loved us all so fiercely. I miss his snuggles. I just miss him so much. I know I didn't see him as much as I would have liked to, but at least I was still able to see him if I wanted to... I just miss the option of being able to go and see him.
